Wood is very sensitive to moisture. Particularly sensitive is parquet, which is only oiled or waxed. With painted parquet, the risk is lower. When does parquet expand? Basically, whenever too much water hits the wood. The “hidden moisture absorption” can be regulated by paying attention to the correct humidity in the room (approx. 60% relative humidity). When wiping the floor, only a fog-moist cloth should be used – no steam cleaners or drip-wet wipes! If water has been accidentally spilled, the mishap must be rectified as soon as possible. The situation can be particularly critical when parquet is in a kitchen. If you have the possibility, the pure cooking and rinsing area should be better tiled, then “accidents” with water are no problem. If parquet is laid in the bathroom, more strict rules apply.
